Running with a tripod

Going into this semester, I saw my internship as a way to "try-on" broadcast journalism; see if it fit my personality. I prepared myself for long hours of answering phones with the hope that I would get to leave the station every once in a while to go on shoots. Then I was fortunate enough to be placed with Heather and Tom at the RNC. The four days we spent in St. Paul (with the exception of being in Minneapolis Wednesday) consisted of sprinting after protesters, experiencing pepper spray/concussion grenades/smoke bombs first hand, clinging to the ladder of our news van to avoid being trampled, and watching scores of people get arrested, including Tom. It was chaotic, tiring and nerve-wracking... and it completely convinced me that broadcast journalism fits me just right.
